The Sinai Hospital Addictions Recovery Program (SHARP) is an outpatient substance use disorder treatment program for opioid addicted adults age 18 and above. SHARP is part of the Sinai Hospital Department of Psychiatry and is located in northwest Baltimore City. The program, which is partially grant-funded, provides services to uninsured and under-insured Baltimore City residents. SHARP espouses a medical model of treatment. Medication assisted treatment, utilizing methadone, is viewed as adjunctive to comprehensive treatment services including individual, group and family counseling; substance abuse education for patients and families; primary medical care (assessment and referral) for uninsured patients; fully integrated dual diagnosis services for the high percentage of patients with co-existing psychiatric disorders; on-site testing and counseling for HIV and sexually transmitted diseases; and linkage with additional services as needed.
