Julie Swope founded Yorktowne Psychological Services, the predecessor of Yorktowne Psychological and Addiction Services, in 1983 and over the last three decades has built a remarkable staff providing a wide range of counseling services to the greater York area.

YPAS meets the needs of Children, Adolescents, Families and Adults who are experiencing minor or major transitions in their life due to mental health or substance abuse issues. It is our belief that every motivated person, with professional guidance can experience positive change in their lives.

Our Psychologists offer INDIVIDUAL, COUPLES, AND FAMILY THERAPY that address such issues as  SITUATIONAL ADJUSTMENTS to adoption, divorce, custody, grieving, relationship, communication and parenting issues. We treat Mood Disorders such as Depression, Anxiety, Bi-Polar and PTSD and refer to appropriate medical resources when medication is a question.

PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATIONS are performed by qualified individuals to assess Intelligence, Learning Problems, ADD, ADHD, or a mental health diagnosis that may be interfering with children reaching their full academic and emotional potential. We also provide Lethal Weapons evaluations.

Our CERTIFIED ADDICTION COUNSELORS provide INDIVIDUAL, FAMILY AND GROUP counseling, as well as DRUG AND ALCOHOL ASSESSMENTS. We are licensed by the PA Department of Health as an outpatient substance abuse facility to provide treatment to those coping with the disease of addiction. We have an intensive outpatient program which involves two group sessions and multiple individual sessions weekly. We refer to qualified facilities as the need arises.

YPAS schedule appointments in a timely manner. Day, evening, and weekend appointments are available. We participate with Medical Assistance and are a preferred participating provider for most major medical insurance.

JULIE SWOPE, M.Ed.CSP,NCSP - the owner, clinical and building director is a Licensed Psychologist of 30 years. In addition, her PA state certifications include school psychologist, supervisory, and elementary education teacher. She provides psychotherapy choosing to focus on abuses of childhood, and domestic abuse as well as post-traumatic stress disorder. Julie provides court ordered evaluations and lethal weapons testing. Above all, she is an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

VERONICA TYLER - the receptionist of YPAS has served 2 years with 20 years of secretarial and office experience and is a graduate of Consolidated School of Business. She assists in assessing insurance coverage and scheduling appointments for our clients. Veronica always has a welcoming smile.

KENNETH MICHAELS MS. Ed. - a Licensed Psychologist of 41 years. Currently Ken focuses his practice on couples and adult individual psychotherapy. Ken conducts professional trainings in Family Therapy. He administers Best Practices Psychological Evaluations. Ken's weakness is that he is an avid Yankee fan.

Dr. TAMMY KING, Psy.D. LPC, CSP, CAACD - a Certified School Psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor, and Certified Advanced Addiction Counselor Diplomate with 13 years experience. Tammy works in private practice as a psychotherapist as well as conducts psychological evaluations for learning difficulties, ADD, ADHD and mental health diagnosis. She has a significant amount of experience working with the forensic population. She continues to work in the private practice sector serving all populations ranging from young children to geriatrics who have mental health, physiological and/or drug and alcohol concerns. Another strength is her avid interest in the Pittsburgh Steelers.

MARK PENTZ, MA, CACD, LPC - a Certified Addiction counselor Diplomate, a Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified hypnotherapist and a Neuro-Linguistic programming practitioner for 12 years. Mark specializes in substance abuse in adolescents and adults with individual and group therapy. Mark conducts the intensive outpatient program. He treats those with a dual-diagnosis of mental health and substance abuse. Mark is an avid snow-boarder.

STACEY BURROUGHS, BS,CAC,CAADC,MS - a Certified Addiction Counselor, Certified Advanced Alcohol & Drug Counselor and Masters level Counselor. She focuses on addictions, post traumatic stress, at-risk youth and families and self-harm behavior. Stacey is trained in Critical Incident Stress Management. She is an avid baker.

ALICE COLLIER,M.S. CAC, CAADC, LPC. - Is a Master Level Psychologist, a License Professional Counselor, and Certified Advanced Alcohol & Drug Counselor with 34 years experience. Alice provides mental health and drug and alcohol counseling to individuals, families, adolescents, children and groups. She provides counseling for the families of the loved ones affected by addiction and alcoholism. She also utilizes the whole person approach to recovery from mental health and drug and alcohol issues. Alice is an A+ seamstress.

CHERYL KNOUSE MHSC, CAC - a Certified Addiction Counselor and is working toward licensure as a professional counselor. She has worked in the addiction field for 21 years and has clinically supervised therapists for 17 years. Her specialties include treatment of addiction, co-addiction, and family of origin issues. Sherry loves lolling around at her pool, but gets  little time to do so.
