Methadone maintenance therapy is the most widely known and wellresearched treatment for opioid dependency. The maintenance phase can be used as a long/short term therapy until the patient demonstrates the qualities required for successful detoxification.

Detoxification is indicated when a patient demonstrates consistent, long-term abstinence and possesses adequate supportive resources (e.g., productive use of time, a stable home life). Gradual detoxification tends to be more successful than a sudden dose discontinuation. For these reasons, detoxification must be undertaken on a case-by-case basis.

Case management will enhance the scope of addictions treatment and the recovery continuum. Two reasons why case management is effective as an adjunct to substance abuse treatment. First, retention in treatment is associated with better outcomes, and a principal goal of case management is to keep clients engaged in treatment and moving toward recovery. Second, treatment may be more likely to succeed when a client's other problems are addressed concurrently with substance abuse. Case management focuses on the whole individual.

Permanent changes are necessary for recovery. CHAMP clinics counselors help patients with changes pertinent to recovery in several stages. It starts with planning the change, implementing the change, monitoring, reminding patients of the change, and assessment forcused on the patient's readiness to reintegrate into the community.

Change at times can be challenging, CHAMP Clinic adopts both scheduled and open door policy. Our counselors are available to help opiate depenent patients through recovery.

Experienced councelors are equipped with proper govenment and community resources; and provide proper referals to help opiate dependent patients take action & achieve their goals.

Methadone is a medication used to help people reduce or quit their use of heroin or other opiates.

Methadone works by changing how the brain and nervous system respond to pain. It lessens the painful symptoms of opiate withdrawal and blocks the euphoric effects of opiate drugs such as heroin, morphine, and codeine, as well as semi-synthetic opioids like oxycodone and hydrocodone. Goals of therapy are to prevent abstinence syndrome, reduce narcotic cravings and block the euphoric effects of illicit opioid use

Opiate dependent patients group tends to be poorly understood and underserved. Methadone maintenance therapy is the most widely known and wellresearched treatment for opioid dependency. Goals of therapy are to prevent abstinence syndrome, reduce narcotic cravings and block the euphoric effects of illicit opioid use. In the first phase of methadone treatment, appropriately selected patients are tapered to adequate steady-state dosing. Once they are stabilized on a satisfactory dosage, it is often possible to address their other chronic medical and psychiatric conditions. The maintenance phase can be used as a long/short term therapy until the patient demonstrates the qualities required for successful detoxification. Patients who abuse narcotics have an increased risk for human immunodeficiency virus infection, hepatitis, tuberculosis, over dosing and other conditions contributing to increased morbidity and mortality.

CHAMP's service stance is harm reduction, with the eventual goal of abstinence from the use of heroin or other opiates.

When patients consent to treatment they will first come to CHAMP clinic daily for their methadone dose. In time they can earn take-home doses.

To enhance the scope of addictions treatment and the recovery continuum. CHAMP Clinic case managers adopt both scheduled and open door policy. Opiate dependent patients can see their case managers as scheduled and as needed to address the patients concerns.
