Coming to Aloha House has been the most significant thing that has happened in my life. I came in a mess, dysfunctional. Because of the people here and in my therapy groups I am on the road to recovery. Before coming here I didn’t like people because I didn’t like myself. But now I love myself and life is getting a whole lot better.

Aloha House has given me strength, courage and faith in my recovery and sobriety. It has helped me to rebirth myself into a strong, secure, independent woman. I have plans and goals in my life – goals that are attainable with hard work and perseverance. I love the person that I have become. I believe in myself and my recovery. I have been given tools to use in everyday life and the ability to know when and where to use them. These simple gifts that have helped me so much will be passed on to others and continue to help those in need and myself, not just for today, but for a lifetime.

Coming to treatment has given me hope because I can actually “kinda” see where a clean and sober life can lead. My family is happy about this choice I have made. Don’t get me wrong, this decision was and is all mine of course. I feel “more happy” than I’ve been in a long time. The people here are very understanding, very good people and (the) surroundings make me feel safe about being sober. Hope is something I never really relied on cause it never got me anywhere before but I feel different now.

Coming to treatment has given me hope for the future by letting me know that I’m not alone in this. Treatment allowed me to open myself up to things that I buried for years. I’m not the only one that opened up. When others opened up that made me open up also. With that I also was able to be honest with myself, and being honest made things a lot easier.

I am grateful to be alive. Ten days ago, I fully expected not to be. I made every effort not to be. I failed, and in doing so, I may have rediscovered a life lost 16 years ago. I’m grateful, grateful beyond words, for the shelter, food, clothing, help, care, concern, genuine concern of everyone there, including the staff, but especially for the friends I’ve made. I see through them lives lived far beyond my troubles. I see in them a profound willingness to survive. I’ve heard them, really heard them, when they have said, “Please don’t kill yourself.” I’m grateful for their heartfelt concern and openness. They have truly helped me see something beyond the fog of what recently seemed nothing more than a failed life. I know their gratitude for life and living will sustain me as I begin anew.

CARF standards are developed with input from consumers, rehabilitation professionals, funders and state and national organizations. These standards are reviewed on a yearly basis and new ones are developed to keep pace with changing conditions and consumer needs.

What Does it Mean to be Accredited?

Once an organization has applied for accreditation, CARF sends professionals in the field to conduct an on-site survey to determine the degree to which the organization meets standards. CARF surveyors also consult with staff members and offer suggestions for improving the quality of services. CARF-accredited programs and services have demonstrated that they substantially meet internationally-recognized standards. CARF accreditation means that the consumer can be confident that an organization has made a commitment to continually enhancing its quality of services and programs and its focus is on consumer satisfaction.
