During the holiday season, San Jose Mercury News publishes articles about local nonprofit agencies as part of its Wish Book holiday fundraising campaign. Mercury News readers are able to donate to any of the nonprofits they read about. 

This year, Mercury News published an article about Ravenswood Family Dentistry, featuring Ravenswood staff Shalisha Miller, Sandra Martinez, Dr. Stacey Lam and Dr. Yogita Thakur. 

The Almanac, a local newspaper covering Atherton, Menlo Park, Woodside and Portola Valley, also published an article to help raise money for Ravenswood this holiday season.

At a Head Start center in San Mateo County, preschoolers are receiving their first-ever dental exam, but there’s not a dentist in sight.

Instead, dental hygienists give each child a teeth cleaning, X-rays, and take pictures of their teeth. These images are transmitted via a Cloud-based server to Dr. Yogita Thakur, who reviews them from her office at Ravenswood Family Dentistry in East Palo Alto, 6 miles away.

“This is how we reach children in areas where dental care is usually limited,” Thakur said.
