This year's Summit for Danny International Climb traverses the summits and fjords of Norway from Aug. 28 to Sept. 7, 2016. Members of the community are welcome and encouraged to participate. Climbs are uniquely designed for all skill levels. We hope you will consider joining the team or making a donation to support them! Climbers pay their own expenses so all funds raised support treatment services for teens at the Daniel Bryant Youth and family treatment center.

On Saturday night, April 30, More than 400 people filled the gloriously decorated Bacara ballroom, transformed into a high-end rock concert venue for performers Alan Parsons and his band (The Alan Parsons Live Project), along with special guest David Pack from the hit group Ambrosia. In keeping with the theme “Rock the Bacara,” guests were invited to blend black tie with rock n’ roll chic, and their creative attire ranged from hipster pantsuits, to black leather rocker dresses and classic glittering gala wear. The video for the evening featured the story of a young mother in recovery, along with commentary from rock luminaries like Alan Parsons, who support CADA’s work because they come from “a business rife with problems of alcohol.” Rock star Eric Burdon (The Animals) remarked, “It takes education to deter young people from abusing drugs and alcohol.” Singer David Pack told the crowd he’d grown up in an alcoholic family and appreciated CADA’s efforts to prevent and treat alcoholism and drug abuse. Special thanks to our Crown Jewel sponsors: Earl and Claudia Minnis, Bacara Resort, Carl Westcott, and Leslie Ridley-Tree, whose late husband was the great uncle of Alan Parsons! The success of this event was due to the tireless efforts of the gala’s co-chairs: Betsy Turner, Sue Neuman, Anne Towbes, Diana MacFarlane, and Holly Murphy, as well as Men’s Committee co-chairs Bob Bryant and Peter Hilf. Mr Hilf delighted the crowd with his gift of $70,000 to what he called CADA’s “A project with a triple-A team.” CADA also wishes to thank the grammy award-winning Alan Parsons and his band, who delighted the crowd with their special blend of cosmic rock in an unforgettable performance!

The Alan Parsons Live Project delights the crowd at the 2016 Amethyst Ball.

CADA is the administrative agency for Santa Barbara Fighting Back, a community collaborative that works together to plan and implement community-wide initiatives to address the problems caused by substance abuse.

The Fighting Back Mentor Program has launched an online resource center: www.mentor-center.org. This website offers mentors and others interested in the program with detailed information about how to become a mentor, or how to get involved in the program in other ways, like volunteering, donating, or helping to recruit mentors. Primarily, the purpose of the site is to provide resources for mentors on activities they can do with their mentee, community events, and in-depth articles on a variety of youth development topics and issues facing children and teens today. Topics cover every area of life — school, personal life, social life, health, substance abuse prevention, gang prevention, and more. It's also a great resource for parents! We hope you will visit the site, make use of the resources you'll find there and give us your feedback.

The Mentor Resource Center was made possible by a grant from The Towbes Foundation.
