ICHS Shoreline Medical and

International Community Health Services (ICHS) is a nonprofit community health center that offers affordable health care services to Seattle and King County’s Asian, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities, and the broader community. ICHS provides primary medical and dental care, health support services, and health education in seven locations.

ICHS has been a vital part of the community since opening in 1973 as a small, storefront health clinic in Seattle’s International District. Today, it is the largest Asian, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander community health center in Washington state. ICHS is fully accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). ICHS was presented by Washington Gov. Jay Inslee with the 2015 Warren Featherstone Reid Award for Excellence in Health Care, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services named ICHS the only “National Quality Leader” in Washington state in 2015 for exceeding national quality benchmarks for health care.

This Health Center is a Health Center Program Grantee under 42 U.S.C.254b, and a deemed Public Health Service Employee under 42 U.S.C.233(g)-(n).

“Uncle Bob” Santos, long-time Seattle social justice champion and one of the founders of International Community Health Services (ICHS), passed away on Saturday, August 27 at the age of 82.

“Uncle Bob” was one of the leading visionaries who brought ICHS to life.

Mark your calendars for the 2017 Bloom Gala! Each year, hundreds of ICHS supporters come together for this special event to raise funds for uncompensated patient care at the ICHS clinics. Next year’s event will be on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel in downtown Seattle.

International Community Health Services (ICHS) will open a new Young Adult Clinic at its Shoreline clinic later this month, providing contraceptive services and mental health counseling to those between the ages of 14 and 26.

U.S. Senator Patty Murray and U.S. Representative Adam Smith toured the ICHS clinic on separate visits to mark National Health Center Week, which was celebrated by over 1,000 community clinics across the country August 7 to 13. For over 30 years, the special week has been used to highlight the vital work done by community-based health care agencies that serve vulnerable low-income and underserved populations.

ICHS is looking for a dynamic Chief Medical Officer (CMO) who will play a major role in building success for ICHS.

The CMO is a key member of the Senior Executive team, engaged in defining the overall business strategy and direction of the organization. The CMO leads the overall clinical vision for the organization and provides clinical direction to the quality improvement, behavioral health, pharmacy, clinical operations, and health services departments and programs. .

Amelita Cruz recently came to ICHS for her appointment with licensed acupuncturist Ping Wong feeling worn out.

After her treatment, she felt refreshed and ready to jump back into her busy life.

“If you saw me when I first came in, I looked tired,” the 63-year-old Mercer Island resident said. “Now, I am glowing.”

For a number of years now, Cruz said her regular acupuncture treatments at ICHS has allowed her to manage chronic pains that have plagued her.

“At one point, I could barely walk and I felt tingling all over my body,” said Cruz, who also teaches cosmetology and barbering. “The acupuncture treatment releases the pain and tingling.”

Cruz said she found out about ICHS more than a decade ago, after being referred by ICHS community advocate Sefie Cabiao when they met at the Filipino Community Center in Seattle.

“She told me to come because there are many services and programs, including those for women,” she said. She said she has since referred a number of friends and family members.

“I feel at home here,” she said. “I feel like they really listen to you. They find a way to help you and they are always willing to help you feel better.”
