Robbin Cole, Executive Director, Pawnee Mental Health Services, has been named the recipient of the Chamberlain-Rapp Exemplary Leadership Award  by Kansas Consumer Advisory Council for Adult Mental Health, Inc. 

The Chamberlain-Rapp Exemplary Leadership Award Named after Ronna Chamberlain and Charlie Rapp, professors at the University of Kanas, School of Social Welfare, the Chamberlain-Rapp Exemplary Leadership Award is given annually to a mental health provider who has exhibited outstanding leadership skills on behalf of Kanas consumers and the recovery movement in the state. We are honored to present this award to ROBBIN COLE. Robbin is the Executive Director of Pawnee Mental Health Services that serves consumers in North Central Kansas. Named the 2011 Kansas Social Worker of the Year, she is a staunch advocate for consumers in the state, also serving as a member of the Governor’s Behavioral Health Services Planning Council.

Memorial Day which started after the Civil War in 1868, was created to honor American Soldiers and Civilians who died while fighting for their country. The establishment of a public holiday was meant to unify the celebration as a national day of remembrance instead of a holiday celebrated separately by the Union and Confederate states. By the late 19th century, the holiday became known as Memorial Day and was expanded to include the deceased veterans of all the wars fought by American forces. In 1971, Memorial Day became a national holiday by an act of Congress and from then Every year Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday of May and this year it will be celebrated on 30th of May. It was formerly known as Decoration Day and commemorates all men and women, who have died in military service for the United States.

Mental Health First Aid is an 8-hour training course designed to give members of the public key skills to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis.

The cost of the course is $25.00 per person or $20.00 per person for groups of 5 or more from the same organziation. The cost includes 8 – hours of instruction and a manual. Our next class will be held at Community Health Ministry in Wamego, KS on Friday, March 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Adam McCaffrey, Director of Therapy and Recovery Services and Dave Cook, Youth Rehabilitation Services Supervisor attended the Special Needs Resource Fair at Manhattan Christian College. The Resource Fair gave parents, caregivers, and teachers the opportunity to visit with various community organizations that provide services and/or summer programs/activities for children with unique challenges.

Pawnee Mental Health Services announces an upcoming Mental Health First Aid course:

Mental Health First Aid introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of metal disorders such as anxiety, depression, substance abuse disorders, eating disorders, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia and teaches a five step action plan to help an individual connect to professional care.

We would like to thank Pawnee Mental Health Services supporters for participating in the Dillon’s Community Rewards Program in 2015.  Dillon’s announced that they have allocated $2.0 million in 2016 to assist local schools and other non-profits in the communities it serves.

Mary Heath, Director of Special Projects, Training and Education

Mary Heath, Director of Special Projects, Training and Education at Pawnee Mental Health Services, is retiring after 25 years of service.

Mary was initially hired as an independent contractor to help Pawnee install its first electronic billing record in 1990.  Over the years, she provided leadership with the implementation of several electronic billing or medical record systems at Pawnee, advised other community mental health centers on the implementation of their electronic systems, served on state committees and served as a member of the Pawnee Management Team.

Executive Director Robbin Cole said, “Unlike some positions, it’s not a simple thing to just fill Mary’s position.  Mary has the status she does because of her longevity with the organization, her experience, her competence and her dedication.”  Mary’s last day will be December 31, 2015.
