The Alternative Legal Placement Program (ALPP) provides a comprehensive solution for reducing jail census and lowering recidivism through a unique combination of substance-abuse treatment, jail diversion, and community reintroduction. In 2015, we had an 84% completion rate with more than 90% of graduates remaining sober following treatment. 100% of ALPP participants found jobs, and fewer than 6% returned to jail. Find out how ALPP and the Affordable Care Act can bring these services to your community.
Lengthy jail stays are expensive and often have severe, long-term consequences. ALPP offers innovative programming in order to move our clients from jail into treatment faster. This legal diversion process focuses on identifying non-violent inmates who meet the diagnostic criteria for substance abuse and moving them from jail into treatment and reintegration that will empower them to avoid relapse and recidivism.
ALPP’s groundbreaking program and unprecedented success rates help jails lower census by significantly reducing recidivism. Every year that one of our clients is out of jail and working provides to the community $120,000 economic benefit. With only a 6% recidivism rate among our clients, ALPP provides millions of dollars of value while transforming lives and communities.
ALPP uses the St. Gregory Recovery Program, America’s leading substance-abuse treatment program. This evidence-based program focuses on simultaneously treating all four manifestations of addiction: biological, psychological, social, and spiritual. This innovative, cognitive approach has led to unparalleled results in private treatment programs and has had similar results when offered in a jail setting. Because of our comprehensive treatment program, we’re able to provide a unique, mental-health safety net that allows us to reduce or eliminate the use of psychotropic medications in treatment, or in cases where greater intervention is required, to refer to higher levels of care.
Our goal is for 100% of ALPP participants to find and maintain jobs. We’re able to achieve this result through integrated programs designed to develop relationships with local employers and to provide job-skills training to clients while simultaneously providing clinical services and housing. This year-long support system allows clients to gradually transition back into the community until they are fully reintegrated.
Homelessness or insufficient housing is often a significant barrier to obtaining and maintaining a job upon release from jail. By facilitating transitional housing for clients as they progress through the program, we provide a means of seamlessly easing them back into the community. Upon program completion, our clients have built the support needed so that all that’s left to change is their address.
