Immunizations prevent diseases at all ages. Immunizing is the best way to prevent the spread of many infectious diseases - and protect lives. Immunizations can also slow down, or even stop, some disease outbreaks before they become widespread - seasonal flu, for example. Making sure young children are immunized is especially important. A child who is not immunized is more susceptible to dangerous and sometimes deadly diseases than a child who is immunized.

Get low-cost shots for families and singles who do not have adequate insurance, at regularly scheduled Hennepin County Immunization Clinics. We offer all routine immunizations for children, plus vaccines for the flu and shingles. For adults 19 and older, we have all recommended immunizations except for travel vaccines.

Call 612-543-5555 to schedule an appointment. All immunizations will be provided at the Hennepin County Public Health Clinic, Health Services Building, 525 Portland Avenue, Minneapolis. | Map

The Minnesota Immunization Information Connection is Minnesota's statewide immunization registry. ImmuLink administers the program in Hennepin County. Immunization registries are confidential databases that contain information about immunizations.

Typically, immunization information about a newborn child is entered into a local or state registry at birth or at his or her first well-baby check-up. Registries work hard to include all children in a community so that families, schools and clinics have complete immunization records whenever they need them. Registries also track adult immunizations, so adults are protected from diseases such as tetanus, influenza (flu), and pneumonia.

Only groups covered by the Minnesota Immunization Data Sharing Law can view this immunization data. This includes physicians, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, school nurses, child care facilities, boards of health, community action agencies, and the commissioner of health. All organizations requesting access to MIIC sign a security and confidentiality agreement.

Sites or individuals that do not have access to MIIC may request MIIC records by calling Hennepin County Immunization Services at (612) 348-2741.

The no-cost Coast2Coast Rx card could provide savings of up to 75 percent on tens of thousands of prescriptions with additional savings available on health care services including diabetes supplies, services such as lab and imaging, and vision, dental and hearing care. The program also offers discounts on pet prescriptions and some veterinary care.

Each time the card is used to fill a prescription, $1.25 will be generated for public programs in Hennepin County.

Residents can pick up a card from more than 69,000  participating pharmacies nationwide or print one from the Coast2Coast website, www.coast2coastrx.com/counties/mn/hennepin.

Participation has no restrictions on eligibility, so all residents are immediately qualified to use the card, regardless of their age, income or health status.

The program, provided through Financial Marketing Concepts, Inc., of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., can provide medical access to those with or without health insurance. For those who are uninsured or underinsured, it could provide access to the prescriptions and health care services that their families need. Even those with insurance can use the card to help offset the cost of high deductibles. In other cases the card could help relieve the out-of-pocket costs of the Medicare Part D ‘donut hole.’

The partnership creates no additional cost to the county and does not require additional work by county personnel to distribute or market the card. Nonprofit organizations and social service agencies are encouraged to e-mail [email protected]  to request free supplies of cards to distribute to their customers.
