Substance Abuse Treatment Unit of Central Iowa (SATUCI) is committed to providing services to people with substance related disorders that are consistent with best practices, appreciative of client self-determination and placing an emphasis on simultaneous treatment of the co-occurrence of mental health, and gambling, and physical health conditions either through agency provision or coordination with other providers.

SATUCI is a non-profit, state-funded, community-based agency which has provided substance abuse prevention and treatment services to the residents of Marshall, Tama, Poweshiek and Hardin counties since 1980. SATUCI is licensed by the Iowa Department of Public Health, Division of Behavorial Health. Counselors hold credentials in treating substance related disorders. Most counselors are alcohol and drug counselors certified by the Iowa Board of Certification. Other counselors are both substance use disorder and mental health professionals. Staff credentials are available upon request or by going to the SATUCI staff page.

SATUCI staff believes everyone should be treated with compassion and respect as they address and overcome the challenges of substance abuse and addiction. All people who develop substance-abuse related disorders are entitled to services that improve the quality of their lives. It is the goal that all services achieve abstinence, recovery or reduction in use of substances for the client. No services will be based on any concept that suggests shame and guilt for the person having the substance abuse disorder.
