Gateway Behavioral Health Services, as an instrumentality of the State of Georgia, is a public community-based organization serving eight Georgia counties: Camden, Glynn, McIntosh, Liberty, Chatham, Bryan, Long and Effingham. The organization is governed by a 12-member Board of Directors appointed by the County Commissions of the counties we serve.

For purposes of managing and holding real property to house consumers in our various programs, Gateway operates one subsidiary, Distinctive Housing Solutions, as a non-profit (501c3) organization.

I discarded a lot of people out my life; I wasn't in active addiction but wasn't functioning well in society. I knew I had something to offer after being in active addiction for five years and having mental health challenges. I suggested I become a Certified Peer Specialist to my counselor at the time, Ed. He told me that Gateway had a Peer Program where you could train to become a Certified Peer Specialist. Now I know what I went through wasn't in vain. By the grace of God I can give back what so freely was given to me.

My name is Desmond. Before I came to the [Gateway] ACT Program I was suicidal, homicidal, addicted to drugs, and had no reason to live. Everything had been taken away from me. I had nowhere to live and no one to talk to and nowhere to get any help. After I enrolled in the ACT program, the staff over a period of time helped me to maintain stable housing and have a purpose in life by taking medications as prescribed and the 1 on 1 counseling that they provide me with. I like to attend the weekly groups and I have learned a new way to live

I like coming to the Center because it gives me a chance to get out of the house and be around other people. Gateway helped me to be independent and to continue to live on my own. I also like to work and make money.

I have been coming to Gateway for a long time (14 years). I like seeing everyone. I have learned to clean the building. I like my job and love getting a paycheck. I like going on outings and the parties we have. I want to go to the movies.

I like to come to the Gateway Training Center because it gives me something to do, helps me socialize with my friends, and I like every person there.
