Please join us for the 3rd Annual Trunk-or-Treat! The event is a fun, safe way to Trick-or-Treat for Halloween. Rather than going “door to door” through the neighborhood, children in their costumes go from “trunk to trunk” collecting goodies from volunteers who have decorated the trunks of their vehicles. Trick-or-Treat with your local police and enjoy fun kids activities, a raffle and a photo booth. There will also be snacks for sale. Prizes will be awarded for best costume and decorated trunk.

Join Lola’s Hope and the Waukesha County Victim/Witness Assistance Program for a SPOOKTACULAR FREE event!

Klement’s Racing Sausages will be here this year!

Volunteers will be asked to open and decorate their trunk or tailgate and provide Halloween goodies for the Trick-or-Treaters. Although candy is the most popular item to hand out, other items such as pencils, erasers, chips, stickers, etc., are also great gifts. Some items you may want to use to decorate your vehicle are pumpkins, spider webs, spiders, brooms, bats, black cats, cauldrons, and other Halloween stuff.

Please plan on meeting in the parking lot of the Waukesha County Courthouse by 12:30pm. That will give you about 30 minutes to decorate your trunk before the children begin to arrive.

In order for this event to be successful, we will need to know how many trunks to expect. Please register by calling Kristi at 262-548-7908 or sending an email to [email protected] to let us know if you will be providing a trunk or volunteering in general. Trick-or-Treaters do not need to register in advance.

WAUKESHA COUNTY EXECUTIVE PAUL FARROW CUTS BORROWING BY $1.5 MILLION IN 2017 New 5-Year Capital Plan Reduc

(WAUKESHA, WI) –Waukesha County’s 2017 – 2021 Capital Plan will reduce borrowing in year one of the Plan to $10M, down from $11.5M in 2016. The Capital Plan includes funding for all major projects proposed in the County budget over the next five years, such as road, facility, and parks projects, as well as investments in technology. Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow will introduce the Plan to the Board of Supervisors today.

“I’m proud to introduce a five-year Plan that not only cuts $1.5M in borrowing in its first year, but also reduces spending by nearly $4M in that same year,” said Farrow. “In addition, we’re continuing to pay down debt at a faster rate than we’re adding it.”

One of the facilities projects in the Plan includes expansion of the Waukesha County Communications (WCC) Center. Just last month, Farrow announced that the Village of Menomonee Falls will be transitioning its 911 emergency dispatch services to the WCC in February, a move that is expected to save taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars. In order to accommodate space demands for new municipal partners, and to host emergency management simulations and trainings, the WCC floor and Emergency Operations Center will be expanded.

The 2017-2021 Capital Plan continues to maintain Waukesha County’s County Trunk Highway (CTH) infrastructure to promote public safety, support business growth and enhance economic development efforts. In this plan, $39.3 million or 40%, is dedicated to highway improvements.

The Plan details how a section of North Avenue (CTH M) spanning between the City of Brookfield and the Village of Elm Grove will be widened to accommodate increasing traffic volumes. A three-mile segment between Calhoun Road and East County Line (124st Street) will be widened to four lanes, and a bridge over Underwood Creek will be replaced. This project combines two existing projects, allowing Waukesha County to leverage federal funding. In addition, less land will need to be acquired along this roadway.

The Plan also includes improvements along two segments of Moorland Road (CTH O), the busiest in the County highway system. About 0.8 miles from I-94 to USH-18 (Bluemound Road) in the City of Brookfield and 1.4 miles from Beloit Rd to National Ave in the City of New Berlin will see improvements that include replacing existing pavement, reconfiguring intersections to improve safety, replacing older traffic signals, and adding sidewalks and storm water improvements. Federal funds are anticipated to offset most design and construction costs.

In addition, the Plan highlights that construction of the Waukesha West Bypass will begin next year. The bypass will relieve congestion on nearby roads caused by continued growth and development in the area. The collaborative project shares costs between the Federal Government, State of Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the City of Waukesha and the County.

Technology investments featured in the Plan include an update to the County Jail’s security system. This project is funding a study to determine options to upgrade recording and display equipment, which is scheduled to be replaced in 2019.

(WAUKESHA, WI) – Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow is proud to announce that the Village of Menom

(WAUKESHA, WI) – Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow is proud to announce that the Village of Menomonee Falls will transition its 911 dispatch services to the Waukesha County Communications Center (WCC) by February 1, 2017. Consolidating Village and County dispatch centers is expected to enhance emergency dispatch services while reducing costs and saving taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars each year.

“Housing Village dispatchers at the County facility will increase the efficiency of emergency services to all County residents,” said Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow. “Moving to a regional model gives 911 dispatchers immediate access to more resources, while giving the County the ability use surge staffing in case of a large scale emergency.”

This consolidation is expected to save Village taxpayers money by eliminating the need to invest in equipment such as emergency 911 phone systems; Computer Aided Dispatch systems; recording devices; facilities and infrastructure; and staff salary and benefits.

“We feel this is the right time to move towards consolidation of services,” said Menomonee Falls Protective Services Director Anna Ruzinski. “With growing technology and aging equipment, Menomonee Falls is dedicated to giving the best service to our citizens while being fiscally responsible.  We anticipate a smooth transition and look forward to working with WCC, while maintaining the quality of service our citizens are used to and deserve.”

RESOURCES AVAILABLE TO WAUKESHA COUNTY RESIDENTS DURING EXTREME HEAT

(WAUKESHA, WI) – Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow is reminding residents of the resources available during the Excessive Heat Warning in effect from noon Thursday through 7:00 pm Friday.

“Excessive heat is the most frequent weather-related danger in southeast Wisconsin,” said Farrow. “For this reason, Waukesha County has safeguards in place to ensure that even our most vulnerable residents can stay safe and healthy.”

Waukesha County residents are encouraged to plan ahead when extreme heat is on its way.

Dozens of cooling centers and places to cool off are located in Waukesha County, such as libraries, malls, or senior dining centers.

Consumers are reminded that Wisconsin law prevents a utility from disconnecting occupied dwelling units when a heat advisory, heat warning, or heat emergency is in effect.

Certain populations are more vulnerable to health risks related to extreme heat, such as adults over 65; children younger than five; people with health issues such as chronic diseases, or who take certain medications; and individuals who work outside.

The mission of Waukesha County government is to promote the health, safety and quality of life of citizens while fostering an economically vibrant community.  We are committed to delivering effective, high quality programs and services in a courteous and fiscally prudent manner.

Additional health and safety resources are available online from the Wisconsin Department of Health and Safety at https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/news/releases/072016.htm.
