The Will County Health Department is the proud recipient of two new awards.

Gold level American Heart Association's Fit-Friendly Worksite award.

 Silver recipient of the Illinois Healthy Worksite designation from 2015 to 2018.

The Will County Health Department’s Vision and Hearing Program will celebrate their 50th year of serving the community on August 26, 2016.  The open house will be in the Administrative Conference Room from 1:00-3:00pm.

JOLIET – The Will County Health Department has been named a Gold Fit-Friendly Worksite by the American Heart Association based upon outstanding workplace health. The annual award recognizes exceptional activities that promote health and well-being for employees.

JOLIET – Unnecessary emergency room (ER) visits cost area consumers billions of dollars during 2015, but a new initiative championed by Will County’s Mobilizing Action for Planning and Partnerships Collaborative (MAPP), is designed to reduce healthcare costs.

CRETE - A rabid bat was found dead on June 2 at the Crete Public Library, in Crete, IL. The bat tested positive for rabies on June 3 by the Illinois Department of Public Health laboratory. This bat has become Will County's second confirmed case of wildlife rabies for 2016. The first positive case was on May 5 in Braidwood. So far this year, there have been 15 confirmed cases across the state of Illinois.

Did you know that approximately 7% of Will County eighth grade students and about 23% of Will County twelfth grade students are currently using tobacco products? (Will County Illinois Youth Survey, 2014). According to the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, about 11,100 kids under 18 become new daily smokers in Illinois each year. As youth are easily influenced by the people around them, how can we, as a community, work to ensure that youth are surrounded by positive role models? By prohibiting tobacco use at recreational facilities, parks, and playgrounds, we can help establish a tobacco-free community norm and can promote a healthier environment!
