September is National Recovery Month, and in celebration of that, I am pleased to bring to your attention the following events:

The Illinois Council on Problem Gambling (ICPG) is sponsoring a Public Awareness event in Peoria Heights, IL., on September 3, 2016. The Name of the event is; “Grandview Drive, 1st Annual | 5K/1 Mile Recovery Run (Walk)“. They will be staging for the event at Tower Park, 4901 N. Prospect, Peoria Heights, IL., 61616 at 8:00 AM.

The Addiction Recovery Team (ART) is comprised of community leaders representing local social service agencies and people in recovery working together to spread awareness that addiction is a disease that does not discriminate.

ART is committed to helping residents, those in the recovering community, and those seeking recovery find prevention, early intervention, and treatment options, with community 12 step support. The purpose of ART is to reduce stigma associated with recovery and allow those, especially youth in recovery, to have a local voice and outlet year round. Oak Park will celebrate National Recovery Month every September with education, de-stigmatization, and the availability of resources. There are two upcoming opportunities to join ART:

Sept.  17th – Recovery Movie and panel discussion at Lake Theatre,1022 Lake Street, Oak Park, 10AM. “The Secret World of Recovery”, Lindsey Glass.”

Sept. 18th –  Recovery Resource Fair, Oak Park Public Library, 834 Lake Street, Oak Park, 2-4PM.  Click for Exhibitor Registration Form.

Sept.  18th – The Addiction Recovery Team (ART) is looking for performers to showcase good mental health through the arts, at an open mic event.   All are welcome, including people in Recovery or friends/family members of a person in Recovery. Share a song, rap, poem, or story. The open mic will be held at the Oak Park Public Library, 834 Lake Street, 2nd Floor, Veteran’s Room, from 2-4PM.
