My practice began over 20 years ago and is based in psychotherapy in a goal oriented setting.I see clients that range in age from adolescence to senior citizens. I welcome individuals, couples and families.

My approach is different based on each person’s needs. One size just never fits all. I really try to meet each client where they are. For instance, if a person comes in and is someone who is shy and guarded, my approach will be very different than if they are more extroverted. And it would depend upon the issues we are talking about.

I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Purdue University and a Master’s Degree in Social Work (adolescent and adult mental health focus) from Indiana University. I have also earned a Master Addiction Counselor certification from National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors. I have completed my training in EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) through EMDRIA (EMDR International Association), and most recently became an EMDRIA Certified Therapist and an EMDRIA Consultant in Training. In its totality, these credentials say that I am a mental health and addictions specialist who can treat everything from a situational difficulty, a major mental illness, an addiction, a trauma, a relationship problem, or all of them combined. I am also an experienced forensic specialist with a history of being a death penalty mitigator, expert witness and treating those under probation supervision. I carry a full private practice and am a Regional Treating Clinician for the National Football League. My experience also includes being an adjunct instructor for the Indiana University School of Social Work, and numerous speaking engagements for mental health professionals, attorneys, probation officers, corporate employees and the general public. I am also a published author. I am an LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) and a LCAC (Licensed Clinical Addictions Counselor). The MAC letters after my name stand for Master Addiction Counselor. Away from the office, I enjoy spending my time with family and friends, reading, going to the movies, and spoiling my dogs, cat and my husband Steve. We live on the far Northeast side of Indianapolis.

How can a person looking for help with past trauma be sure that the EMDR treatment they are receiving or about to receive is “good”? There are several things that a person can ask their EMDR therapist, even before treatment begins or before making a first appointment to make sure the therapist is going

Only as many as you want to. According to EMDR originator Francine Shapiro, “with other forms of therapy, you have to describe the memories in detail. With EMDR therapy, that’s not necessary. The client says as much or as little as they want to. As a matter of fact, in many instances,

The latest scientific research http://Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry, 52, 83-91. doi.10.1016/j.jbtep.2016.03.007 suggests that the use of eye movements can be used to reduce the intensity of substance-related imagery and cravings.
