WMU is moving forward with plans to open its new Department of Physical Therapy with the hire of Dr. Stacie J. Fruth as founding chair and program director.

At a gathering on Tuesday, Aug. 9, faculty and staff from the College of Health and Human Services and across the University came together to celebrate the retirement of Dr. Nicki Nelson, who retired after a distinguished career and 35 years at WMU.

Dr. Kieran Fogarty, founding faculty member of the Ph.D. program, has been named the new director of the program. Dr. Linda Shuster also joins the Ph.D. program faculty starting this fall.

A contingent of social work faculty from Western Michigan University traveled to Salamanca, Spain, to present their research at the 8th International Conference of the European Council for Social Research on Latin America. The topic of the conference forum was: "Charity vs. Development: What Should Be the Mission and Strategy of the Social Work Profession?"
