Holy Cross Children’s Services is one of the largest private, not-for-profit providers of children’s services in Michigan. The service portfolio includes residential campuses and group homes, charter schools, foster care homes, supervised independent living programs, day treatment and a variety of community-based services. HCCS has offices and service sites in Clinton, Detroit, Clinton Township, Redford, Saginaw, Mt. Morris, Traverse City, Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids. In addition, HCCS is the managing partner for Samaritan Center, Michigan’s largest one-stop social services, and employment center – located on the east side of Detroit. HCCS is also the managing partner for Kairos Healthcare, an adolescent and adult substance abuse facility in Saginaw, Michigan. HCCS provides help to approximately 650 children and families each day and a total of 2,600 per year. HCCS employs about 450 workers dedicated to helping children, youth and families become self-sufficient.

Holy Cross Children’s Services was founded as Boysville of Michigan, Inc., and was officially dedicated on October 24, 1948, by His Eminence Edward Cardinal Mooney with assistance of Bishops from Grand Rapids, Lansing, Marquette, and Saginaw. The program began as a boarding school for Catholic boys with serious home problems and was a joint project of Michigan’s five Roman Catholic dioceses. The need to help these wayward youths was close to the hearts of Cardinal Mooney and the other bishops. Boysville was constructed on land sold to the Archdiocese of Detroit by Henry Ford near the site of the first Ford mill outside of Saline, Michigan. Over the years, Holy Cross Children’s Services continued to grow, opening additional campus and group home residential programs as well as community-based programs including foster care, day treatment, and Supervised Independent Living.

Holy Cross Children’s Services is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Rehabilitation Facilities (C.A.R.F.) and is licensed to provide a variety of services by the Michigan Department of Human Services, which also contracts with the agency for service provision. HCCS is a proud member of the Michigan Federation for Children and Families and the Alliance for Children and Families. The agency’s growth over the past 60 years reflects the incredible commitment and support of our dedicated staff and the Michigan’s Knights of Columbus.
