Dirigo Counseling Clinic was established to provide sensitive, friendly, warm, respectful and positive counseling interventions to individuals, families and groups throughout Maine.

A program designed specifically for adolescents and adults who need an assessment or treatment for abuse of alcohol and/or drugs, Dirigo Counseling Clinic, LLC, is licensed to provide issue the J.A.S.A.E (The Juvenile Automated Substance Abuse Evaluation) by ADE, Inc.

Dirigo Counseling Clinic addresses individual and family needs with a wide spectrum of approaches including individual, family and couples counseling and support groups. We help people cope with life challenges, traumatic life changes, mental illness, and behavioral disorders.

With four locations throughout Maine, Dirigo Counseling was established to provide sensitive, friendly, warm, respectful, and positive counseling services to individuals, families, and groups.

We provide treatment for a wide spectrum of human challenges with the anticipation that, with oft times hard work, answers to those challenges may begin to emerge. Our goal is to provide a positive and constructive experience to each patient who walks through our doors.

Services at Dirigo Counseling include the evaluation, treatment, and aftercare services for patients with mood disorders, personality disorders, or substance abuse issues. Dirigo Counseling also provides counseling services to families and couples.

These services may also be provided to the families and other concerned persons, whether or not the primary client is receiving services. This service includes professional assessment, counseling, and therapeutic services to adults and children, the purposes of which are to promote positive orientation, relief of excess stress, and growth toward more integrated and independent levels of functioning. Services utilize a variety of individual and group treatment modalities and are provided by trained, licensed professionals.

Services are provided in accordance with licensing standards, insurance standards, as well as MaineCare definitions and rules as specified in the MaineCare Benefits Manual.

Step One of our counseling process begins with an orientation, where we learn about what brings you to counseling, provide any forms for your review that might be required by law or for insurance purposes, and match a counselor to a patient based on his/her unique needs.

At Dirigo Counseling, we strive to provide a wide range of services specifically tailored to the needs of each patient. The goal of step one is to understand individual situations, and to plan a “next step” together, as a team.

Step Two is all about clarifying goals and problem solving. Counselors and patients engage in “solution talk” to identify options, form a Recovery Plan, and identify markers of success.

When a patient reaches Step Three with Dirigo Counseling, they are ready to form an action plan to recovery. This may involve possible collaboration with other providers such as PCP and/or family therapy. Most importantly, Step Three is about taking accountability for sustaining the recovery process.
