Crossroads provides gender-responsive addiction and behavioral health treatment services in a safe and respectful environment so individuals and families can lead healthy lives.

A driving force behind the programs at Crossroads, a behavioral health and addiction treatment center in Maine since 1974, is our passion for helping women and men remember who they wanted to be. Substance use disorders can derail lives and cause people to lose sight of who they are and where they want to go. However, at Crossroads, we are dedicated to helping our clients get that fresh start they need to develop the tools and skills necessary to overcome behavioral health and substance use disorders. We offer gender-responsive treatment programs that help our clients find their way to greater clarity and once again have purpose and goals as they move forward and pursue recovery from substance use and mental health disorders.

Treatment is not one size fits all. Since men and women often face different challenges when it comes to treating substance use and mental health disorders, Crossroads offers gender-responsive treatment programs. We tailor our treatment models to women and men’s individual needs. From depression and anxiety to post traumatic stress disorder and other mental health conditions, these issues can affect substance use and the ability of clients to overcome obstacles. Part of recovery involves positive thinking, self-motivation, and confidence, which all stem from addressing mental health concerns and recognizing how they affect treatment and recovery.

Oftentimes substance use disorders and mental health disorders go hand-in-hand. It is imperative to treat these two conditions simultaneously due to their interrelated nature, which is the basis for dual diagnosis treatment programs for men and women. Each affects the other, so it is essential that clients understand the impact of co-occurring disorders and how to make positive changes in their life to promote lifelong recovery. As clients progress in their recovery, they are able to develop the strategies and tools that work best for their individual situation. Dual diagnosis treatment programs combine addiction treatment, counseling, holistic therapy and other activities to facilitate more comprehensive care.

Back Cove Women’s Residential Program is a gender-responsive, holistic treatment program that focuses on healing the mind, body and spirit. It combines 12-step methodology, individual counseling, group therapy, recreational activities, and family programming to help women overcome addiction. Clinicians are not only trained in gender-responsive approaches, but also trauma-informed care.

An in-depth evaluation helps to identify underlying issues contributing to substance use and allows staff to develop an individualized treatment plan tailored to each client’s needs. Women participate in group counseling in addition to individual therapy where they can delve more deeply into the issues impacting their recovery. To promote healing, stress reduction, and improved mental health, meditation, yoga, acupuncture, equine therapy, and other wellness services are incorporated into treatment.

The Back Cove Women’s Residential Program also places focus on the family and engaging everyone in the recovery process. There are family sessions and programs that help everyone to understand the effects of addiction, promote healing and support recovery and healthy lives.

Motherhood can be a driving force in women seeking treatment for substance use disorders and mental health concerns. Crossroads’ Children and Mothers Program (CAMP) provides residential treatment for women who are pregnant, have children age 5 or under, or are working on family reunification. A top concern among mothers is the welfare of their children when seeking treatment for themselves. CAMP allows mothers to remain with their children while in residential treatment. Case managers also help women to access medical care, find housing following treatment and secure other resources necessary for ongoing recovery.

Recovery doesn’t stop with residential treatment. Gender-responsive outpatient programs for men and women provide ongoing care tailored to each group’s specific needs. Comprehensive assessments identify challenges clients are facing both with mental health and substance use. Individual, group, couples, and family counseling can help men and women to work through these issues in a safe, supportive environment. For those who have received an OUI (operating under the influence) citation, Crossroads is a certified DEEP (Driver Education and Evaluation Program) site in the state of Maine.

Crossroads offers a variety of outpatient therapy and educational groups for clients and their families. There is an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) specifically for women that provides treatment for three hours a day, five days a week and typically lasts for six weeks. There is also a six-week family program, The Effects of Addiction on Friends and Family, for anyone who is affected by addiction, regardless of whether their loved one is currently in treatment.

Crossroads provides gender-responsive addiction and behavioral health treatment services that allow clients to recover in a safe, supportive environment and develop the skills and strategies necessary to support long-term recovery. There are also programs that address the needs of family members to build healthy families and help everyone deal with the impact of substance use disorders in a constructive way.

Crossroads is a member of the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers, is CARF accredited and is committed to providing high quality care to women, men, and families struggling with substance use disorders and mental health disorders.
