New York, NY – August 3, 2016 – Urban Resource Institute today announced the generous continuing support of its People and Animals Living Safely (URIPALS) program by the ASPCA.

As many as 48% of domestic violence victims stay in abusive situations because they don’t want to leave their pet behind. Created in 2013, Urban Resource Institute’s People and Animals Living Safely program—abbreviated as URIPALS—is the first program in the state of New York and one of the few in the country that allows domestic violence survivors to live in a shelter apartment with their pets. The Hope House and Restoration Residence shelters were launched by URI as part of an effort from Mayor Bill de Blasio’s administration to significantly increase the number of emergency housing options for victims of domestic violence.
